Just wanted to blog a little about something I found in a magazine I have got great ideas from...
I have had this magazine for close to a year! And continue to get lots of inspiration from it. There is a page I found that I hadn't even noticed after all the times I have looked through it until recently. If you are currently or will be organizing a space in your home most likely you will end up with some things that are left over that you need to get rid of.
There is lots of options on what to do with all the stuff- garage sales, ebay, craigs list, donation. I found in this magazine a list of some organizations that take donations that I didn't even know existed, I thought I would share some of my favorites with you!
Electronics-
The National Cristina Foundation http://www.cristina.org/
Just simply go to the website and click on the bold text Non Profit Locator on the home page, then type in your zip code- it tells you what organizations are in need of what items. A great way to reuse printers, computers, digital cameras, etc. Super cool!!
Eyeglasses-
Lions Club International http://www.lionsclubs.org/
This organization takes is able to recycle your old eyeglasses and distributes to those who can not afford eyeglasses.
Magazines-
Think about contacting places with waiting rooms- doctor's, dentist offices, hospitals, car mechanics, any place that people do waiting. **** I am always about safety- so make sure you block out your name & address if it is a magazine you get delivered to your home****
Even some preschools or Sunday school classes might be able to use them for craft projects
Shoes-
Nike reuse a shoe http://nikereuseashoe.com/
Amazing- they recycle old shoes and use them in making athletic services- like courts, tracks, fields, playgrounds or they can be used to make clothing or shoes as well
Everything else-
Earth 911 http://earth911.com/
Just put in your zip code and what you are looking to recycle and they give you a list of places in your area
Freecycle- http://www.freecycle.org/
How have I never heard of this before?? You just type in your city and it gives you a list of items people want and items people are getting rid of! Win-win situation there!!!
There are so many local organizations that take donations as well- Homeless Shelters, Food Banks, Churches, Domestic Violence Shelters, etc.
Wow! I am amazed at all of these organizations! See not only can you organize and purge your unneeded items but you can also really help others in the process! So what are you going to organize this weekend? What other organizations are out there that reuse items to help others?
